I designed this Poinsettia as a give-away Christmas trinket. My spouse Gloria, likes to share my \u201cstuff\u201d with her quilting club pals. She told me, \u201cMake something red and green for Christmas .\u201d \u201cLike a poinsettia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I drew up a poinsettia in Fusion 360. Following a picture of a poinsettia I found on-line. It\u2019s not an exact copy. No two poinsettia are. But it\u2019s close enough to be a true representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s designed to be a coaster. Three top red petals (leaves?) are flat and provide a good three point cup or glass support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am using my Snapmaker J1S IDEX two-extruder printer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The filament is Overture PLA-PRO so it can be claimed the plastic is biodegradable, The subject of plastic is sensitive these days. It\u2019s standard speed PLA so staying within the 30-70 mm\/s speed range. Each print requires about 1.5 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The white beads in the center are ABS micro spheres and are less than a millimeter in diameter. Far less than a gram for each poinsettia. CA glue holds them in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The microspheres are static sensitive so it is like herding cats to get them to settle down in their designated area. An initial drop of CA in the recess gets them to stay put, then I saturate the pile with another drop of CA. They are not going anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I prefer new design more than manufacturing. But I do like making a special batch of prints when there is a demand. Gloria likes them, so that is all it takes to put me into production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
